This
work was part of the exhibition Fold, at Craft Victoria, curated by
Robyn Phelan.
Made
from brightly coloured paper covered with black and white chalk, and
painstakingly cut with a weave-like pattern exposing its original
colour. The paper is bent and sewn together into the form of a man's
suit jacket. A symbol of corporate power discarded on the floor.
Reference
to the exhibition title is made through narrative rather than
technique. This narrative plays with the word “fold”, implying a
fracture, closure, or withdrawal of the jacket's owner and the
corporate powers it represents. The human hours spent making the
work, and the title, both reference the disregard institutions have
for the individuals they rely on to maintain their positions of
influence.
